#12: A new thing! Will you join us?
Introducing 'learning circles' - a more active way to engage with work culture
So, we’ve got a new thing and we’d love to know if you’re interested...
Working on Work Daze over these past few months has made us much more aware of how people talk about work culture. We’ve noticed that because of its complex yet highly impactful nature, it’s a topic people are often keen to discuss and hear how others ‘do it’. That got us thinking about the opportunity for social learning - in other words, the value in learning from others.
In our continued pursuit of helping to create better work cultures, we want to build on our newsletter by providing a more direct and active way for people to engage with these topics.
What’s the plan?
In lieu of any snazzier branding for now (all about that lean approach) we’re calling these ‘learning circles’. Consisting of a small number of people, with a shared focus / challenge / area of interest, these sessions will be an opportunity for you to learn about how to improve life at work. Think: finding out about how other people cope with toxic productivity, how other companies do away days, or how to implement a new diversity and inclusion initiative.

Want to know a bit more behind our thinking? Read on...
Peer-to-peer
We think there’s a huge opportunity for peer-to-peer learning. If you’re anything like us, it’s fascinating to hear about how other people and companies do things. Learning about this often happens ad-hoc, we think there’s an opportunity to facilitate this more effectively.
Culture concerns everyone
Culture is a rare function of an organisation that is experienced and shaped by every single person. Anyone who works in an organisation, no matter how small or big, can benefit from learning about how to navigate and contribute to positive work cultures. Both in terms of how you approach work as an individual, the way you interact with others and the wider initiatives you might try to implement. Culture is too important to only sit with HR or the C-suite.
Breaking down silos
While culture is unique to each company, we think there’s an opportunity to break down the silos of organisations. By facilitating more cross-organisational sharing, we can help compare and contextualise both bad and good practices, in the pursuit of better cultures everywhere.
Focused discussions for meaningful outcomes
Sometimes it’s easier to describe what you don’t mean. We don’t mean networking for the sake of networking. Or belonging to a community and never really getting anything more than notification overload (which just becomes digital white noise). Instead, there’s something to be said for a curated group of people exploring a shared topic or challenge. Swapping notes, helping each other think things through, and providing accountability.
So, if any of the above made you do the face below, then flex those curiously muscles and sign up to join us.
And for a bit of wisdom
